Dear Miner Family,
It is so hard to believe that just a few months ago I was sending off my third graduating class at Woodland High School as Principal. We were on the football field, it was hot, the stage was set, decorations were in place, and more importantly, 329 graduates of the Class of 2019 were honored. It was a very bittersweet day. I felt like a proud “Papa” again as our graduates walked across to shake my hand.
Here we are again as we start another amazing school year. This time much change has taken place. I have the privilege of moving back to the middle school setting where my “Passion” in education was developed during my time at Woodland Middle as an Assistant Principal for seven years and a Principal for one year.
The most exciting change is that I will be the first Principal of the newly re-branded Red Top Middle School (Home of the “Miners”). My excitement can not be contained! On May 7th a 21-person committee completed the rebranding process and chose the new name, mascot and colors. The very next day I was selecting paint, carpet and tile colors. Shortly after that we went through the process of designing our logos and mascot. It has been a busy summer but an amazing one as well.
South Central Middle School (SCMS) set the foundation for Red Top Middle School (RTMS). There will still be some reminders of SCMS throughout the building but we will continue to build our “Miner Family” for RTMS as we prepare our students for their high school experience at either Cass High or Woodland High. As part of the rebranding you will see new paint throughout the building, new LED lighting, areas with new carpet, areas with new tile, a new gym floor, new gym bleachers, a new road marquee (digital), new weather awnings in the car rider drop-off area, new student and teacher desks, and other changes throughout.
The faculty and staff of RTMS want everyone in the Miner Family to work together to achieve “23…the Standard for SUCCESS” (It takes 23 credits to graduate from high school at CHS and WHS). We want all of our Miners to understand the expectation of earning credits in high school, now while they are at Red Top. We will implement numerous “SUCCESS” initiatives in an effort to motivate and better prepare our students to be successful future Colonels and Wildcats.
Doing our best in ALL aspects of middle school life should be a daily goal for all of our Miners at Red Top. I encourage you to connect and stay connected with Red Top Middle School. We want to have strong support from our parents, our students, and our community (our Miner Family). We invite each of you to to become a part of this Family by supporting us with your presence and your loyalty.
Thanks For ALL You Do!
Dr. Wes Dickey
